Club Meeting – How to (Just) Survive an Ultra

Join us on March 27th for our Club Meeting, followed by a talk from Charlie Furness.
Charlie says –
“Back in 2023 I tried my first ultra, vastly underprepared. I set off from the South of France during a massive thunderstorm along with nearly two hundred other riders, arriving a week later on the Andalucian coast of Spain. A lot can happen in a week.
I got heatstroke during the hottest April on record, was chased by more than one dog, ran out of food and water, and had several potentially ride-ending mechanicals and injuries. I rode through the vast empty interior of Spain, over smooth tarmac and crumbling gravel tracks, through deserts, over vast mountains, past ancient citadels and ruins of the civil war. I slept in olive groves and church doorways and ate mostly tortilla.
To the uninitiated, this probably sounds like a terrible time. And somehow I’m doing it all again in a few months’ time. During the talk, I’ll run through the what, why, and how of ultra rides, and share some useful advice and – hopefully – a bit of inspiration for anyone looking to do something similar”.
This talk is open to anyone with an interest in bike packing, traveling and adventure.

The Club Meeting starts at 7.30pm
Charlie’s talk – 7.45/8pm
